You are invited to an important community clean energy event on Friday, October 22nd from 4-6pm at the Historic Train Depot (716 Elk Ave).

Did you know that if you pay your electricity bill through Gunnison County Electric Association, you are actually a member of a rural electric cooperative? As a rural electric co-op member-owner, you have an important role to play in deciding how our community sources its electricity.

This fall and winter, members of our community have a huge opportunity to push for the clean energy transition we need through Tri-State’s Electric Resource Plan (ERP) process at the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC). Tri-State is the power provider for GCEA and 17 other rural electric co-ops here in Colorado. Members of those co-ops (like us!) can make our voices heard in Tri-State’s ERP process this fall. And this process is really important, because Tri-State’s ERP decides how and where we get our electricity for the next 5-10 years.

As Colorado’s second largest electricity provider, Tri-State Generation & Transmission has announced some big steps to start to move away from fossil fuels like coal over the last couple of years; however, the G&T still needs to #TriHarder to provide member-owners with clean, affordable electricity instead of forcing Coloradans to pay for expensive, outdated, out-of-state coal plants.

Please join us for a screening of Patagonia’s “We the Power” followed by a discussion with rural cooperative organizers from the Sierra Club and Western Colorado Alliance, and local clean energy champions including High Country Conservation Advocates Executive Director, Brett Henderson. Learn more about the opportunity we have to push for change as part of Tri-State’s ERP process and discuss what we can do together to help power our community with affordable, clean energy.
